Hello, I am new to GOG and am not sure if this is common but I recently downloaded Fallout 1 and installed it on my applications (I have a MacBook Pro with Lion). When I click the fallout icon to start it appears on my bar and then disappears. The games does not even start. Fallout is the game that started it all. I know quite a few people started with Fallout 3. In my opinion Fallout 2 is the best video game ever created but Fallout 1 is a true classic that not only started one of the greatist gaming franchises but originated a lot of modern RPG's. Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 work great on Steam with something called Proton which is available on the Linux version of Steam essentially allowing the games to run right out of the box. There is also a program called Lutris that works well for installing the games especially if you happened to buy the GOG version.
